The Time is Now

The Time is Now

“If you do nothing in a difficult time, your strength is limited. Rescue those being taken off to death, and save those stumbling toward slaughter. If you say, “But we didn’t know about this,” won’t He who weighs hearts consider it? Won’t He who protects your life know? Won’t He repay a person according to his work?”  Proverbs 24:10-12

Doubt. Fear. Overwhelm.

These are emotions I battle with daily. Thoughts race in my mind: Am I smart enough to write about the things I’m writing about? Am I good enough to lead my children by example? Is my life “together enough to make a difference for others, or can they see through to the mess I really am?

These thoughts are debilitating. I can often become consumed by them. I get filled with so much self-doubt that I neglect what God has called me to do, and instead, I do nothing. Oh, how the enemy’s screams so often drown out God’s soft whispers!

Do you know the place I’m coming from? Is there somewhere deep inside you that keeps you frozen in fear? A place where there’s so much lack of confidence you never move forward? Yeah, me too, and I’ve felt it so strongly over the last couple of months.

I came across Proverbs 24:10-12 recently, and these verses have been some that I have really taken to heart, so I want to share them with you:

“If you do nothing in a difficult time, your strength is limited. Rescue those being taken off to death, and save those stumbling toward slaughter. If you say, “But we didn’t know about this,” won’t He who weighs hearts consider it? Won’t He who protects your life know? Won’t He repay a person according to his work?” (CSB).

Friend, you don’t have to turn on the news or google current events to know that we are living in difficult times. Adversity is all around us. My heart is shattered thinking about the destruction happening in Israel. Things seem to be falling apart all around us, but God will never call us to be overcome by fear.

I know this is easier said than done because the bottom line is that our strength is small. We have an enemy who knows his time is short, and therefore, he’s out to infiltrate the body of Christ by planting seeds of doubt in our minds. We live in a culture that’s not always given voice to the small. We have been raised with words of defeat spoken over us, and as a result, we come from a place of emotional deficit.

Our strength is limited. It always has been, and it always will be, this side of heaven. But the places where our strength is lacking only defines our human condition. We weren’t created to rely on our strength alone. We were created to stand in the confidence of God’s strength and not back down when fear and doubt arises. He who has created you and called you will equip you.

Friend, if you choose to do nothing in this current difficult time, your strength will remain limited. There is destruction all around us. There are wars, deceptions, and people living without the truth of God in their lives. But you have been born for such a time as this.

It’s time we rid ourselves of the debilitation of doubt, fear, and overwhelm in order to suit up in the Armor of God and surround ourselves with His truths. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgment” (CSB).

What has God been calling you to that fear has kept you from walking into? What screams from the emeny have you leant an ear to over the soft whispers of God? Where are areas in you life that have given way to so much self-doubt that you have done nothing to progress?

God has given you the same power that healed the sick, made the blind see, and gave life to the dead.  In Christ, we have no excuses–He can see through them anyway. But what we have is His power and provision. The time is now to step boldly into His strength.
